Tapestries and fabrics are a fundamental part of Middle Eastern culture and heritage, however they do not reflect or express the culture they represent. Laudi Abillama\u2019s collection of artworks that make up this exhibition depict modern conflict in gender stereotypes and cultural identity in the Middle East and deal with issues that are often kept non-debated.<\/p>\n
Silkscreen printed on fabrics, the images are reminiscent of the techniques and colors used in creating Persian rugs and Syrian tapestries. With contrasts of colors and artworks full of minimal details, Abillama aims at expressing her view of our modern culture.<\/p>\n
Born in 1986 in Surrey, England, Laudi Abillama spends most of her life in the United Kingdom where she received her BA in Arts and Media from the University College of Creative Arts. At the age of 20 she come back to Lebanon, her home country, to be part of the rise of contemporary art in the region. She chose to paint predominantly people; representing personalities that have at some point influenced or touched her. She exhibits in both Beirut and Dubai, and her work is acquired internationally.
