The Center For Advanced Mathematical Sciences invites you to a seminar entitled “Supercomputer Experiments in Basic Physics: The Femtoworld in Simulation” by Professor Klaus Schilling.
Nearly 40 years ago the theory of nuclear forces was formulated as a relativistic quantum field theory, called Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). This fundamental theory of matter is built in close analogy to Electrodynamics. The practical approach to evaluate it was proposed by Wegener and Wilson, as a local gauge theory on a four-dimensional space time lattice (LQCD).
In the first part of the talk he will introduce the virtual reality of quarks which to the experimentalist are evasive objects as being confined into hadronic bound states, but can be studied in quite some detail by the theorist, by means of supercomputer simulations. However, the statistical methods used for these studies require both, sophisticated measures for noise reduction and Peta-to Exascale computers.
In the second part of the talk,he will describe the Joint Simulation Laboratory between the Juelich Supercomputing Center and The Cyprus Institute that will address some of the bottleneck problems of LQCD and bring top level supercomputing expertise into the EastMed region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
