\u201cLet Merjane Sleep\u201d is a story about enjoying the different stages of growing up and particularly about children\u2019s exhilaration towards adulthood. The play is inspired by the classic collection of Arabic folktales in “The One Thousand and One Nights.”<\/p>\n
Prince Merjane, the son of the Sultan, is not able to sleep. To solve his problem, he commands all the women of the kingdom to tell him a bedtime story that would help him fall asleep; those who fail to make him sleep are sent to prison.<\/p>\n
Eventually, all the women are imprisoned because none are able to make him fall asleep; he doesn\u2019t like fairy tales, nor lullabies, nor traditional songs\u2026 he has had enough of those and wants to be treated as an adult although he is only 7-years-old.<\/p>\n
Enter Scheherazade, the princess from “Thousand and One Nights,” who carries him into a story where he will not only be a listener, but also play a crucial role and learn an important lesson.<\/p>\n
The plays is written and directed by Karim Dakroub.<\/p>\n
