Washington Post<\/a> published Transparency International’s scale of public sector corruption on Wednesday, featuring 176 countries in a variety of colors. The least corrupt countries, with Denmark, Finland and New Zealand capturing the top three spots, are shown in bright yellow, and the most corrupt, with Somalia, North Korea and Afghanistan on the bottom, in dark red. <\/p>\n Ranking 128, meaning it is the 48th most corrupt, Lebanon is pretty bright shade of red – outranking fellow Arab countries Qatar, UAE, Jordan, Oman, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Bahrain and even Egypt – which ranked slightly less corrupt this year – moving up from 118 to 112. <\/p>\n
It is worth noting that nearly all of the very corrupt countries listed are also third-world, with a high poverty rate and ineffectual or dictator-like governments. Sadly, Lebanon is no exception, and it doesn’t look like we will be improving our ranking in the coming years.
