Mixing Different Languages in the Same Sentence<\/big><\/big><\/b><br \/>  <br \/>  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beirut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/30139-10.png\" width=\"100%\"><br \/>  <br \/>  This problem is bad. Like, really bad.<br \/>  <br \/>  We\u2019re talking ruining-a-job-opportunity kind of bad simply because we can\u2019t seem to construct sentences without including \u201cinno\u201d, \u201cbas\u201d and \u201ckhalas\u201d.<br \/>  <br \/>  It\u2019s a curse, if you ask me; even if we\u2019re talking to non-Arabs, we don\u2019t seem to have control over the Lebanese words that escape our tongues. <br \/>  <br \/>  Inno, it\u2019s really difficult not to use them, ya3ni.<br \/>  <br \/>  <b><big><big>2. The Eyebrows<\/big><\/big><\/b><br \/>  <br \/>  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beirut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/30139-4-219x250.png\" width=\"100%\"><br \/>  <i>(Photo via <a href=\"https:\/\/homesanctuary.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00d8341cc30c53ef00e553b72d0e8833-800wi\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\">typepad.com<\/a>)<\/i><br \/>  <br \/>  [No description needed for this one.]<br \/>  <br \/>  <b><big><big>3. Our Names are Always Underlined on Microsoft Word<\/big><\/big><\/b><br \/>  <br \/>  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beirut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/30139-250x240.png\" width=\"100%\"><br \/>  <br \/>  No, like why.<br \/>  <br \/>  Why does autocorrect on Microsoft Word hate on us so much?<br \/>  <br \/>  It is the most irritating thing to have red lines all over our word documents, but no matter what, Jameel and Rana and Khaled and Fatmeh seem to be marked. <br \/>  Ah, well.<br \/>  Haters are my motivators.<br \/>  *Brushes dust off shoulders*<br \/>  <br \/>  <b><big><big>4. If Mama Says No, Ya3ni It means No<\/big><\/big><\/b><br \/>  <br \/>  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beirut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/30139-3-250x250.png\" width=\"100%\"><br \/>  <br \/>  Even if we\u2019re 20, heck, even if we\u2019re 40, when our mother says no \u2013 it means no.<br \/>  <br \/>  If we look around us, kids gain their independence at the age of 12 but in our culture, no matter how old we get, no matter how far we get in our lives, if our mother doesn\u2019t like our outfit, we change it.<br \/>  <br \/>  <b><big><big>5. The Hookah-Sharing Problem<\/big><\/big><\/b><br \/>  <br \/>  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beirut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/30139-1-250x248.png\" width=\"100%\"><br \/>  <br \/>  This one is really annoying, particularly for non-smokers. They share one argilah (obviously, because it means less liras) and then argue over whose turn it is to smoke.<br \/>  <br \/>  And take it as a rule of thumb, the person smoking the argilah has always \u201cjust started, wallah.\u201d<br \/>  <br \/>  <b><big><big>6. The \u201c3\u2019ammo\u201d Problem<\/big><\/big><\/b><br \/>  <br \/>  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beirut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/30139-2-220x250.png\" width=\"100%\"><br \/>  <i>(Photo via <a href=\"https:\/\/img.youtube.com\/vi\/nR03KWaGmCg\/0.jpg\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\">youtube.com<\/a>)<\/i><br \/>  <br \/>  Even if the person we\u2019re dealing with is not that much older, it\u2019s awkward not calling them 3\u2019ammo.<br \/>  Our parents\u2019 friends, waiters, taxi drivers, our older brother\u2019s best friend\u2026 you name it.<br \/>  Kelon 3\u2019ammo.<br \/>  <br \/>  <b><big><big>7. When They Reply in French or English<\/big><\/big><\/b><br \/>  <br \/>  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beirut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/30139-9-250x250.png\" width=\"100%\"><br \/>  <br \/>  I get that we&#8217;re a prestigious country that speaks more than one language, but I asked you a question in Arabic &#8211; why are you replying in French?<br \/>  <br \/>  This issue is particularly problematic in salons, where everyone&#8217;s first language suddenly becomes French and if you don&#8217;t speak it, you automatically feel out of place. The worst part is when we ask how much we should pay and they reply, &#8220;vingt-huit&#8221;<br \/>  <br \/>  Ving-hwattt?<br \/>   <br \/>  <b><big><big>8. We Can&#8217;t Eat Without Lebanese Bread<\/big><\/big><\/b><br \/>  <br \/>  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beirut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/30139-8-250x250.png\" width=\"100%\"><br \/>  <br \/>  We don&#8217;t get full if there isn&#8217;t a fat rabtit khibiz sitting smugly on our right.  The best part is that it doesn&#8217;t stop with hummus and labneh. Oh, no. We have it with peanut butter, with eggs, with knefe, with rice (I kid you not) and the creative list doesn&#8217;t stop there. Talk about patriotism.<br \/>  <br \/>  <b><big><big>9. Our Babas And the Remote Control<\/big><\/big><\/b><br \/>  <br \/>  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beirut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/30139-7-250x237.png\" width=\"100%\"><br \/>  <br \/>  Our childhoods are spent waiting for our fathers to nap, just so we can steal the remote control and change from Al-Jazeera to Sbace Toon, because when they&#8217;re up &#8211; we don&#8217;t even think of asking.<br \/>  <br \/>  <b><big><big>10. Middle Names = Father&#8217;s Names<\/big><\/big><\/b><br \/>  <br \/>  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beirut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/30139-6-199x250.png\" width=\"100%\"><br \/>  <br \/>  Middle names?
