You either get a \u201cMAN THAT\u2019S AWESOME\u201d high-five or an eyebrow lifting cautiously to insinuate that you\u2019re an idiot for taking this risk.<br \/>   Studying in this city might indeed have its downsides, but there is also a lot to gain from it. We did a nonprofessional survey and asked a bunch of LAU and AUB students that moved here what they thought the best part about studying here was.<br \/>  Here are factors that most of them mentioned:<\/p>\n<p>  <b><big><big>Chaos<\/b><\/big><\/big><br \/>  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beirut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/34774.png\" width=\"100%\"><br \/>  (Image via <a href=\"https:\/\/english.al-akhbar.com\/node\/19889\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\">Al Akhbar<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>  Whilst some students might recoil at the thought of chaos, others find absolute delight in the hustle and bustle of the city. One student claimed that the chaos in Beirut helped him find himself. Being surrounded by such disorder and malfunction can result in more than anger fests, it seems. There is always an element of surprise when you\u2019re a student in Beirut \u2013 you never know what to expect next from this city (side note: this is not always a good thing).<\/p>\n<p>  <b><big><big>Diversity<\/b><\/big><\/big><br \/>  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beirut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/34774-1.png\" width=\"100%\"><br \/>  (Image via <a href=\"https:\/\/womennewsnetwork.net\/2013\/09\/17\/religious-diversity-lebanon\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\">Women News Network<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>  There is insane diversity in Lebanon. Conservative, intellectual broke, rich, superficial, hipster, extremist, communist \u2013 you will find them all in Beirut. You can be anything and blend in.<\/p>\n<p>  <b><big><big>The collective desire for change<\/b><\/big><\/big><br \/>  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beirut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/34774-2.png\" width=\"100%\"><br \/>  (Image via <a href=\"https:\/\/encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com\/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRlrhvwccv_6twfWysGpqykcNwEH1Fb47XT9LhI8VyzR73FGf85VQ\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>  Amongst Beiruti students, activism is an all too common feat. Volunteering opportunities, projects and peaceful protests take place. Of course, the fact that Lebanon is in a transitory stage (it has been in one for a long time, we might add) helps.<\/p>\n<p>  <b><big><big>Food<\/b><\/big><\/big><br \/>  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beirut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/34774-3.png\" width=\"100%\"><br \/>  (Image via <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.bristolbites.co.uk\/listing\/mezze-palace\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\">Bristol Bites<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>  Oh God, the food. Everyone will attest to the deliciousness and quality of food in Lebanon. The list is endless \u2013 walk through the streets of Mar Mikhael and indulge in the delicious desserts in the quaint little caf\u00e9s; munch on a hot, fresh cheese and zaatar man\u2019ouche from the bustling Hamra; have organic kibbeh and kousa in the mountains; order a mezze in a Lebanese restaurant in Broumana. The list is truly endless \u2013 and so is the love we have for the food here.<\/p>\n<p>  <b><big><big>Social life\/ the people<\/b><\/big><\/big><br \/>  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beirut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/34774-4.png\" width=\"100%\"><br \/>  (Image via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.premiumseven.com\/blog\/2013\/01\/30\/10-rare-photos-of-old-beirut\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\">Premium Seven<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>  This one is probably the best thing about studying in Beirut \u2013 the social life. There are always a lot of activities going on \u2013 from musical and cultural shows to interesting workshops and crazy parties. There is a pulsating spirit here \u2013 a desire in people to live and let live. Many students complain that the places they came from don\u2019t have this energetic ambiance. Better yet, locals here are friendly. They love tourists, actually \u2013 it gives them a weird sense of self importance.<br \/>  One thing is for sure \u2013 Lebanese people have a knack for enjoyment, and once you land your feet here you can\u2019t help but become just like them. <br \/>  This is one city that knows just how to have fun.<\/p>\n<p>  <b><big><big>Freedom<\/b><\/big><\/big><br \/>  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beirut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/34774-5.png\" width=\"100%\"><br \/>  (Image via <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.mdjunction.com\/components\/com_joomlaboard\/uploaded\/images\/color-f3e85c1be63c84c0d044e53d15f45c23.JPG\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\">MD Junction<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>  Although this was an answer that only students from neighboring Arab countries voiced, it\u2019s quite true. To some extent, there is freedom of thought and speech in Beirut \u2013 at least in comparison to other cities in the Middle East. You can say what you want and be whoever you want to be \u2013 no one (really) cares.<\/p>\n<p>  <b><big><big>Culture<\/b><\/big><\/big><br \/>  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beirut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/34774-6.png\" width=\"100%\"><br \/>  (Image via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.premiumseven.com\/blog\/2013\/01\/30\/10-rare-photos-of-old-beirut\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\">Premium Seven<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>  For students coming from abroad, the culture of Beirut is thrilling. It is a city that has been through war, a city that fluctuates on a daily basis from the \u201cParis of the Middle East\u201d and a center for terrorists to hide their weapons (ok that\u2019s not funny), an intellectual and cultural hub, a fashion capital and a politically riveting place to be in.<\/p>\n<p>  <b><big><big>It\u2019s a beautiful country<\/b><\/big><\/big><br \/>  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img4.beirut.com\/GetImage3\/eight\/article\/34774\/600x600\" width=\"100%\"><br \/>  (Image via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lebanon-hotels.com\/blog\/lebanon-on-earth-as-it-is-in-heaven\/la-chaine-du-mont-liban-2\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\">Lebanon Hotels<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>  The fact that Lebanon is such a tiny country makes it really easy to move from one place to another \u2013 the mountains aren\u2019t too far to drive to and the beaches are all really close. There is always going to be a beautiful mountain to hike, an old souk to stroll in and a new village to discover.<\/p>\n<p> 1    <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Beirut is a city
