In the period leading up to the momentous date, you are likely to be full to the brim with a hefty dose of these well-intentioned resolutions. You may promise yourself that you will be an all-around better version of yourself; more exercise, more quality time with loved ones, more intellectual stimulation, and so on and so forth, but we are here to tell you that the best New Year\u2019s resolution you can make is not to make one at all<\/b>. <\/p>\n

Consider the crushing impact of committing to goals you almost never meet; and you\u2019re not alone in that – the truth is, very few people manage to keep a New Year\u2019s resolution past January 2nd. It is a surefire way to set yourself up for failure. <\/p>\n
There is evidence that suggests that small steps work way better than grand gestures or multiple simultaneous commitments, and that individually-set timelines work much better than artificial ones like December 31st or the first week of January. It\u2019s almost as if we\u2019re setting ourselves up to fail with promises we don\u2019t intend to keep. <\/p>\n
Instead of going down that rabbit hole, consider accepting life\u2019s journey for what it is: a beautifully messy affair that throws you the biggest curve balls when you\u2019re least likely to be looking. Take it for what it is and consider simply making plans and commitments in an organic way. All it takes is a little bit of faith and a whole lot of self-directed kindness. After all, isn\u2019t the spirit of kindness and forgiveness what the Christmas holidays are all about? Who\u2019s to say that these gifts are meant exclusively for others? The bottom line is, the best resolution to make is to not make one at all, but rather to continuously work on improving yourself no matter what the date says.
