Ah, family business – it\u2019s so much fun. Just kidding, it\u2019s basically a low-level hell that you have to endure because of DNA. Here are things you\u2019ll know to be true if you\u2019ve ever worked in a family business environment:<\/big><\/p>\n
1. All the employees are people you grew up around.<\/big><\/big><\/b><\/p>\n
\u2019Abu Fadi\u2019 used to carry me around and buy me toys. Fast-forward twenty-five years and I have to reprimand \u2018Abu Fadi\u2019 for showing up late to work. It\u2019s the shitty circle of life.<\/big><\/p>\n
2. Work doesn\u2019t end when you leave the office.<\/big><\/big><\/b><\/p>\n
Your parent\/relative will feel completely comfortable calling you up at 11:30 PM to discuss the fate of some bank transaction.<\/big><\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
3. Family dinners can get awkward..<\/big><\/big><\/b><\/p>\n
Have you ever screwed up something major and literally cost your family thousands of dollars? Well, sit down. There\u2019s koussa for dinner and you will sit there and act normal.<\/big><\/p>\n

4. Getting a raise is almost impossible.<\/big><\/big><\/b><\/p>\n
Unless you give yourself one.<\/big><\/p>\n
5. You\u2019re somehow simultaneously the manager, janitor, and accountant.<\/big><\/big><\/b><\/p>\n
I would also make coffee and drive clients around.<\/big><\/p>\n

6. It comes with quite a bit of judgement.<\/big><\/big><\/b><\/p>\n
Get ready for people’s judgmental looks when you tell them you work for the family business, they\u2019ll automatically assume you couldn\u2019t find a job so your parents gifted you one. <\/big><\/p>\n

7. The biggest perk is having a private bathroom.<\/big><\/big><\/b><\/p>\n
That\u2019s basically it. That\u2019s the big accomplishment, that you don\u2019t have to share a bathroom with 30 strangers.<\/big><\/p>\n
8. It also comes with plenty of assumption.<\/big><\/big><\/b><\/p>\n
People assume you can take time off whenever you want, belittling your job in doing so.<\/big><\/p>\n

9. Things can get dicey when more relatives become involved.<\/big><\/big><\/b><\/p>\n
It\u2019s most difficult to manage a relative (like a cousin, sibling, niece, or nephew) without them taking your management skills personally.<\/big> <\/p>\n
10. Everyone in the industry knows you as bint\/ibn someone.<\/big><\/big><\/b><\/p>\n
They also knew your grandfather. Fun!<\/big><\/p>\n
11. You have to hear a million stories every damn day.<\/big><\/big><\/b><\/p>\n
I would say around 90% of family business is comprised of smiling and nodding while a client regales you with tales about your father, how long they\u2019ve known each other, and how poor they both were.<\/big><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
