Every time we think “can the situation get any worse?”, Lebanon answers back with a big fat YES. <\/p>\n

Surreal screenshots have been circulating on social media from a public Facebook group called “\u0644\u0628\u0646\u0627\u0646 \u064a\u0642\u0627\u064a\u0636<\/a>” or “Lebanon Trades”, through which users are posting to trade their belongings for food and other basic needs. The group was created as a medium of exchange that does not rely on money, also historically known as “barter”.<\/p>\n

Editorial Purpose:<\/b> We are sharing this piece of content to give a voice to our people and possibly mobilize change.<\/i><\/p>\n

As such, many of the group’s members have now resorted to trading to get their hands on baby milk, diapers, cooking oil, and more. <\/p>\n

Now that the dollar has reached a staggering 7,000 LL<\/a> in currency exchange shops, salaries and savings have lost their value and can barely cover families’ basic needs. Not to mention families who have lost their livelihoods and only source of income altogether with the increasing job cuts and business closures. <\/p>\n

We can’t help but think of what these people would have to offer when they’ve traded out their belongings and still need food. Where do you think this would lead?<\/p>\n
