Recent achievements include Nadine Labaki serving as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.festival-cannes.com\/en\/2024\/about-the-2024-awards-press-conference-of-the-feature-film-jury\/#:~:text=The%20Feature%20Film%20Jury%20presided,Cannes%20for%20a%20press%20conference.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">jury member<\/a> at the Cannes Film Festival and the incredible Lebanese film <em>Arz\u00e9<\/em> being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beirut.com\/en\/719347\/arze-the-lebanese-movie-making-strides-across-film-festivals-around-the-world\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">featured<\/a> at the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival. However, it was <em>Ila Ayn?<\/em> (1957) that placed Lebanon on the world stage as the first Lebanese film to ever be selected in the Cannes Film Festival.<\/p>    <p><\/p>    <p>The iconic film was directed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinemathequebeirut.com\/cinematheque\/profile\/727\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Georges Nasser<\/a>, a Lebanese director who is considered a pioneering figure in Lebanese cinema.<\/p>    <p><\/p>   <iframe title=\"Embedded Instagram Post\" allowtransparency=\"true\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"532\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/Bs-IFGSjn8J\/embed\/\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"background: white; max-width: 540px; width: calc(100% - 2px); border-radius: 3px; border: 1px solid rgb(219, 219, 219); box-shadow: none; display: block; margin: 12px 0px 12px !important; min-width: 326px; padding: 0px;\"><\/iframe>   <p><\/p>    <h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-georges-nasser-the-father-of-lebanese-cinema\">Georges Nasser: the Father of Lebanese Cinema<\/h3>    <p><\/p>    <p>Nasser was born in Tripoli in 1927 and pursued film studies at UCLA in Hollywood. Upon returning to Lebanon, he dedicated his time to create films. Lebanon did not even have an established film industry at the time. In 1957, he directed <em>Ila Ayn<\/em>, the first ever Lebanese film officially featured in the Cannes Film Festival. <\/p>    <p><\/p>    <p>The film competed for the Palme d\u2019Or alongside some of the most notable directors in the world. The film made a significant impact on jury members, like George Stevens and Marcel Pagnol. Its exploration of immigration and its genuine portrayal of the working class remain as relevant today as they were in 1957. The father abandons them to seek a better life in Brazil, believed to be a land of opportunity. Twenty years later, the mother struggles to raise their children. The elder starts a family, while the younger prepares to emigrate to Brazil. The arrival of an old man in the village sets the stage for the unfolding narrative.<\/p>    <p><\/p>    <h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-lla-ayn-a-cannes-classic\"><em>lla Ayn<\/em>: A Cannes Classic<\/h3>    <p><\/p>    <p>It wasn&#8217;t until <a href=\"https:\/\/abboutproductions.com\/ila-ayn-60th-anniversary-screening-at-cannes-classics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2017<\/a> that the Cannes Film Festival could restore a copy of the film.
