In a necessary step to tackle the ongoing trash problem, the Municipality of Aley has introduced a $100 fine for anyone caught littering on the streets.<\/p>

Mayor Wajdi Murad told MTV<\/a>: \u201cWe honestly don\u2019t know what more we can do\u201d about people who keep dumping their garbage everywhere. Despite repeated warnings and cleanup efforts, the issue persisted, so the municipality decided it was time for stricter action.<\/p>

Cameras have now been installed around the area to monitor violations. When someone is caught littering, they\u2019re contacted directly and fined. If the vehicle isn\u2019t from Aley, the fine is issued based on the car\u2019s license plate. The penalty? 8.9 million Lebanese Lira (roughly $100).<\/p>

Murad said he believes this kind of financial pressure might be the only way to change people\u2019s habits. As he put it, \u201cSome people won\u2019t get the message unless it hits their wallet.\u201d<\/p>
