Over the years, it has been used for limited civilian and humanitarian flights. It never operated as a full-scale commercial airport.<\/p>    <p><\/p>    <p>In the 1960s, it was converted for military use. Technicians have long <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lbcgroup.tv\/news\/news-bulletin-reports\/839046\/international-interest-grows-as-companies-explore-qlayaat-airports-reh\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">argued<\/a> that Qlayaat airport&#8217;s geographic and weather advantages make it ideal for expanded civilian use.<\/p>    <p><\/p>    <p>Calls to reopen the airport have resurfaced repeatedly, especially from northern Lebanon residents who have long pushed for better infrastructure and economic opportunities in the area.<\/p>    <div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>    <h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-its-rehabilitation\">Its Rehabilitation<\/h3>    <p><\/p>    <p>Back in March, PM Salam announced that Dar Al-Handasah would deliver the airport\u2019s preliminary master plan free of charge, with a three-month timeline. That plan is now ready.<\/p>    <p><\/p>    <p>During an earlier site visit, Salam emphasized that the airport\u2019s reopening could play a key role in strengthening the area&#8217;s economy, improving national connectivity, and enhancing regional security.
