A recent piece by Daraj Media, <em>The Queer Left Lost Between Gender Politics and the Resistance Axis<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/daraj.media\/\u0627\u0644\u064a\u0633\u0627\u0631-\u0627\u0644\u0643\u0648\u064a\u0631\u064a-\u0627\u0644\u0636\u0627\u0626\u0639-\u0628\u064a\u0646-\u0627\u0644\u062c\u0646\u0633\u0627\u0646\u064a\u0651\u0629\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">(\u0627\u0644\u064a\u0633\u0627\u0631 \u0627\u0644\u0643\u0648\u064a\u0631\u064a \u0627\u0644\u0636\u0627\u0626\u0639 \u0628\u064a\u0646 \u0627\u0644\u062c\u0646\u0633\u0627\u0646\u064a\u0651\u0629 \u0648\u0645\u062d\u0648\u0631 \u0627\u0644\u0645\u0642\u0627\u0648\u0645\u0629)<\/a>, has raised a question that deserves serious engagement: can queer people align with forces that do not recognize their identity, in the name of opposing occupation? It is a fair question, but it carries a hidden assumption: that being queer and opposing occupation are in conflict, and that you cannot fully be both.<\/p>    <p><\/p>    <p><em>To be queer is first to survive. <\/em><\/p>    <p><\/p>   <iframe title=\"Embedded Instagram Post\" allowtransparency=\"true\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"532\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DWRzR09DZIW\/embed\/\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"background: white; max-width: 540px; width: calc(100% - 2px); border-radius: 3px; border: 1px solid rgb(219, 219, 219); box-shadow: none; display: block; margin: 12px 0px 12px !important; min-width: 326px; padding: 0px;\"><\/iframe>   <p><\/p>    <p>Occupation does not pause for identity. It strips people of the right to exist, regardless of who they are. Anti-occupation spaces are not always safe for queer people, but queer liberation has never been possible under occupation either.<\/p>    <div style=\"height:19px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>    <p>Occupation is not a neutral backdrop against which extremism simply appears. It helps produce the conditions in which it can take root and persist: poverty, trauma, institutional collapse, and the erosion of civil society. Recognizing this does not excuse homophobia or exclusion, nor does it erase the threat of homophobia from extremists that exist outside these realms and across continents. The truth of the matter is, not a single political party in Lebanon, whether it actively opposes the occupation or not, has ever fought for queer rights.<\/p>    <p><\/p>    <p>The pinkwashing we should be more alert to is one that has been deployed consistently against this region (what we saw in Gaza and now in Lebanon): the framing of LGBTQ+ rights as a metric of civilization, used to justify mass killings, military intervention, economic suffocation, and the erasure of civilian life. That instrumentalization does real damage and works to make genuine solidarity harder, all while handing bad-faith actors an easy argument.<\/p>    <div style=\"height:32px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>    <figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"692\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beirut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/lgbtbeirut-1024x692.png\" alt=\"lgbt beirut\" class=\"wp-image-772531\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.479779255695486;width:763px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.beirut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/lgbtbeirut-1024x692.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.beirut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/lgbtbeirut-600x406.png 600w, https:\/\/www.beirut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/lgbtbeirut-250x169.png 250w, https:\/\/www.beirut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/lgbtbeirut-768x519.png 768w, https:\/\/www.beirut.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/lgbtbeirut.png 1195w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>    <div style=\"height:24px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>    <p>Queer people in Lebanon, as elsewhere under occupation, are not a constituency to be managed or a variable in someone else\u2019s political equation.
