8 Lebanese NGOs That We Are Proud Of

In a country where social issues go unnoticed and unresolved, it is no strange fact that several great NGO’s have been founded to address some of the most important social concerns. Here is a list of some of the best Lebanese NGO’s that deserve our appreciation:

1. Marsa
MARSA’s Center provides social, psychological, and healthcare services to sexually active individuals in Lebanon. Their services include: free tests for a wide variety of STD’s, counseling and support for AIDS patients, psychological therapy, medical consultations, and social counseling.


2. Food Blessed
Food Blessed is a volunteer-driven, self-funded organization that aims to fight food poverty in Lebanon. They work on redistributing edible leftovers from restaurants and shops to those in need. They also provide free meals through their soup kitchens in certain locations, for the less fortunate to benefit from.


3. Himaya
Himaya is an organization that aims to fight child abuse in all its forms (physical, psychological, sexual, and neglect). They organize lectures and training for parents, schools, and children on how to prevent abuse and offer guidance to children on how to defend themselves. They also offer services at the psychological, psychiatric, social and judicial levels to victims of abuse. These services and training extend to include Syrian refugee children as well.


4. Animals Lebanon>
Animals Lebanonaims to improve the welfare of animals by providing protective and rescue missions ranging from captive wildlife animals, to circus animals.


5. The A Project
The A Project مشروع الألف addresses women and gender non-conforming individuals through establishing a sexuality hotline for people to have access to information about sexual and reproductive health. They also conduct private discussion groups and community involvement workshops about gender and sexuality.


6. Kun Hadi
Kun Hadi is one of the oldest and most renowned NGO’s in Lebanon. This organization aims to raise awareness about road safety among the youth, and was established after the death of 18-year old Hady Gebrane. It hopes to introduce a new culture of safe driving habits among the Lebanese youth.


7. Embrace
Embrace is an NGO affiliated with AUBMC that works towards raising awareness about mental health. It aims to positively represent people with mental disorders, establish supportive community programs, and offer financial assistance and they are currently working on a suicide prevention hotline.


8. KAFA
KAFA is also one of the oldest and most renowned NGOs in Lebanon. This organization seeks to reach gender equality through advocacy, awareness campaigns, empowering women, and offering support to women and children who are victims of violence.
