Plans For Lebanon’s First Opera House Announced

As reported by Business News, the Lebanese Ministry of Culture (MoC) is seeking funding for a new cultural landmark: an opera house right here in Beirut.

The plans were set into motion when the Sultanate of Oman proposed financing a cultural center in Lebanon, that was then requested to be turned into an opera house by the MoC. It is worth noting that the Royal Opera House in Muscat is Oman’s premier venue for musical arts and culture.

According to Saleh Farroukh, an advisor at the MoC, the cost of this project ranges from $50-$70 million, and the location would be in Beirut.

This comes shortly after the MoC received a $35 million grant from China, meant to develop a new National Conservatoire for Music in Dbayeh that is planned to span over 15,000 square meters.

We hope the MoC continues to enrich Lebanon’s cultural landscape.
