The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has revealed the nominations for this year’s Academy Awards earlier today, in an event held in Los Angeles earlier today. The Lebanese film, The Insult, directed by Ziad Doueiri and starring Adel Karam has been nominated for Best Foreign Language Film.

Along with films from Hungary, Sweden, Chile, and Russia, The Insult will be competing for the award, a first for Lebanon. While previous films had been short-listed for the award before, this is the first instance of a Lebanese film making it to the final list of nominees.
People have had positive reactions to the nomination, despite previous conversations about boycotting the film due to the conditions of shooting and the director’s work with Israeli filmmakers.
Yesterday was ashamed bcz of the garbage on lebanon’s shore, today im proud that “the insult” made to oscar nominations. That’s our lebanon with its positive and negative sides, always grateful to be lebanese 🙏🏻
