Lebanese NGO For Differently Abled Children To Shut Down For Lack Of Funding

Lebanese people awoke to terrible news on Friday, June 7th, after the well known social welfare NGO SESOBEL released an official notice announcing that they will be shutting their usually welcoming doors.

The social welfare NGO has been operating since 1976, and has helped countless differently abled children and their families by providing financial assistance and social programs.

The shocking and saddening news came as part of the NGO’s response to their poor financial situation and lack of funding.

In an official letter, SESOBEL announced that they will be gradually implementing a series of procedures leading up to their closing.

The procedures include:

1. Discontinuing the children’s daily meal, which will be replaced by sandwiches provided by the parents and families.

2. Limiting their working days to only 4 days per week, as of June 10.

3. Closing down completely as of Friday, June 28.

The terrible news lead to a frenzy of public outrage, with people blaming the Ministry of Social Affairs for withholding a year’s worth of funding to the NGO, which relies strictly on donations to remain afloat.

In a last ditch effort to save the institution, SESOBEL has organized a self sustaining event party on June 21st at Bar National, which you can attend for support.

For 43 years, SESOBEL has acted as a continuous support system for differently abled children and their families, but all that will come to an end due to government negligence and corruption.
