Meet The Lebanese Modeling Agency Redefining Beauty Standards
We here at Beirut.com are happily celebrating some amazing local ad campaigns that are wonderfully inclusive of all forms of beauty! Earlier this summer and for the first time ever in Lebanon, transgender model Sasha Elijah graced billboards around Beirut for the local up-and-coming local brand Emergency Room Beirut. Concurrently, the city’s fantabulous Love Night at AHM’s beautifully featured queer individuals in a promotional video.
We were happy to discover that Green Apple is the awesome modeling agency behind it all. Allow us to give you the A to Z on this local gem that is working to break outdated beauty norms one shoot at a time.
This Beirut agency is the brainchild of Angelique Sabounjian, an entrepreneur with a passion for fashion and design. In 2016, Sabounjian had a clear mission in mind: to bring forth equal representation in ad campaigns around the country. Through her work with designers Johnny Farah, Roni Helou, and LAU fashion school grads, she began to scout talent on Instagram and through acquaintances. After getting herself acquainted with the ins and outs of the industry, she founded Green Apple Agency in 2018 with the slogan, “Redefining beauty through diversity and inclusivity”.
So far, this new kid on the block has been successfully representing beauty in all its forms through non-stereotypical campaigns, on both a regional and national level.
In an effort to tackle the media misrepresentation of queer people in the MENA region, Green Apple showcases their models’ daily lives through unfiltered vlogs.
And with every signed deal, Sabounjian and her team make sure to foster a healthy, safe, and respectful environment for every single model, in which they are fairly paid.
Having been around for a year now, The Green Apple family has already doubled in size reaching 45 models, and boasting a portfolio of local and international clients like: Maison Du Mec, Roni Helou, L’Officiel, Plastik Magazine, Vanina, and many others.
