Train/Train Lebanon: The NGO Working To Revive The Lebanese Railway System

Although Lebanon’s once fully functional train stations lay dormant today, the Beirut-Damascus railway line has some serious potential of coming back to life and fulfilling its original function.

How, you ask?

Meet Train/Train Lebanon, an NGO advocating for the rehabilitation and preservation of the Lebanese Railway System by conducting studies, building models, and raising awareness.

The organisation’s first steps included organizing a weekend of festivities to commemorate the anniversary of the railway.

Train/Train Lebanon is also shedding light on the role of railways as a backbone for transport in Lebanon, and on the importance of sustainable public transportation.

Initially built during the Ottoman Empire by a French company, the Lebanese railway system has been present for 124 years now.

We hope this NGO will be able to put transportation in this country back on the right track!
