Iranian Moms Now Grant Citizenship To Their Children, Lebanese Mothers Still Can’t

For the first time in history, Iranian women have been granted the right to pass their citizenship to their children, if the father is a foreign national, according to Bloomberg.

The law had been passed with an overwhelming majority in parliament and was finally ratified by a panel of senior clerics and judges.

In recent years, more Arab countries have reformed their nationality laws as well, including Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Morocco, Tunisia, and Yemen.

While this is a great victory for women in Iran and the Middle East, we can’t help but remember Lebanese mothers, who are denied that very right.

We sincerely hope that Lebanon will follow suit.
