Lebanese Doctor Offers Free Eye Surgery To Injured Protestors

The Lebanese revolution continues to bring out the best in people, and it’s making our hearts swell.

In a completely humane and amazing initiative, Dr. Samer Kahil has stepped forward to help protestors who lost their eyesight during the violent clashes with riot police that happened earlier this month.

Head of the Lebanese-Swiss Center for Artificial Eyes, Dr. Kahlil has volunteered to perform free eye surgery on those who need it.

This came after what was deemed the “week of wrath” which left more than 500 people injured, according to the Lebanese Red Cross, the highest toll since the protests erupted.

Among those injured were victims of rubber bullets and tear gas canisters fired at a close-range, which cost several protestors their eyesight, others their fingers, and some even their genitalia.

Despite the harrowing scars that many were left with, it’s good to see some humanity left in our people.

Dr. Kahlil is not the first to lend a helping hand to those in need. Earlier in the revolution, Dr. Raed Lattouf reached out to a resilient Tripolitan protestor, Mohammad El Zo3bi, and offered to provide him with a prosthetic leg.
