Protestors Take Back To The Streets As Lebanese Lira Hits New Low

Editorial purpose: We are sharing this piece of news with you to keep you informed in light of what appeared to be a media blackout.

Last night, Riad El Solh square was filled up with angry citizens and protestors after the Lebanese Lira hit a new low in the black market.

Throughout the day, the dollar was being exchanged for 4,200 LL – 4,300 LL, despite BDL instructions for currency exchange shops to bring the rate back to 3,200 LL.

But towards the end of the day, the dollar had neared 5,000 LL in an unprecedented high, which prompted several groups to take to the streets in protest of the worsening economic conditions.

Many people expressed that the scenes from Riad El Solh last night brought back flashbacks of October 17.

Could we see a similar night sometime soon?
