Lebanon To Contact Alvarez & Marsal For A Forensic Audit… Again

One month after international auditing firm Alvarez & Marsal terminated its contract with the Lebanese government, our ministers are giving it another shot, hoping for a second chance.

After meeting earlier today with President Michel Aoun, Lebanon’s caretaker minister of finance Ghazi Wazni announced that he will be reaching out to Alvarez & Marsal again for a long overdue forensic audit.

This comes after the Lebanese parliament passed a law lifting banking secrecy on the Central Bank and other public institutions for one year in a session held on Monday, thus refuting BDL’s initial excuse to refusing to hand over necessary documents.

Due to BDL’s lack of cooperation and receiving less than 50% of the information they need, the auditing firm terminated its contract with the Lebanese government end of November.

The company was hired back in July to perform a forensic audit on the Central Bank and determine the whereabouts of huge sums of money that are currently unaccounted for, to no avail.

Will we get answers this time? Or will they keep buying time and wasting our money with no end result?
