New Level of Surreal: Political Parties Join General Strike to Demand New Government

Later today, employees of various sectors and syndicates across the country are set to take to the streets in a general protests called for by the General Confederation of Lebanese Workers against the deteriorating economic and social conditions in the country.

The food and beverage industry, bakeries, private insurance companies, airport employees, banks, and taxi drivers announced that they would be a part of this movement. But in a strange twist, three major political parties who are in power are joining in on the strike as well. The Free Patriotic Movement (FPM), the Future Movement, and Amal Movement — all of whom hold the largest parliamentary blocs — will be protesting the currency’s downfall and deteriorating living conditions in the country.

This morning, protestors from these parties took to the streets and blocked Corniche el Mazraa road and Khalde road.

Political parties have officially began protesting against themselves. Do not forget that they control both the government and parliament.
