Kelna 3ayle: From Wasted Food To Meals Around Lebanon

A staggering 717,491 tonnes of food is wasted every year by Lebanese households, while 77% of Lebanese households do not have enough food or enough money to buy food.

Of this amount, 189,547 tonnes come from Lebanese food services including restaurants, cafeterias, catering companies, venues, and the like, while nearly 30% of Lebanese children went to bed hungry and skipped meals in June 2021, according to UNICEF.

A local NGO called Kelna 3ayleh is providing a solution by bridging that gap and picking up excess food from food services, restaurants, event venues, and even private residences, and delivering it to people across Lebanon. The organization has delivered over 763,000 hot meals meals and 500 supermarket vouchers all over Lebanon in just one year.

Thanks to the support of several NGOs and donors, Kelna 3ayle even opened a restaurant and a central kitchen in order to provide home-cooked meals two days a week for over 3,000 families in Zahle, Kesserwan, Dekweneh, and Tripoli.

So, instead of throwing away leftover food while many Lebanese sleep hungry, call them on 03 71 299.

They accept nearly all forms of quality excess food: fresh, frozen, prepared, raw, dry, etc.

Take a moment to check them out and help out if you can. You could be changing someone’s life.
