Lebanon Is Entering Third Mass Exodus Wave Of Immigration

The severe economic crisis and dire living situation have resulted in a massive brain drain, as more and more people are racing to leave the country.

A report published by AUB’s Crisis Observatory has shown that Lebanon is entering a third mass exodus wave of immigration as over 300,000 people are leaving Lebanon.

The report included alarming numbers.

– Lebanon ranks 113 out of 144 globally in relation to the brain drain phenomenon.

– 34,000 people have applied for an immigrant visa already in recent months.

– 77% of Lebanese youth seek to escape the country.

– 1,200 nurses have already left.

– 20% of Lebanese doctors have left already or are planning to leave.

– More than 1,500 faculty and staff (12%) at the American University of Beirut left the country

– 6 engineers are seeking recommendations letters from their bosses daily to apply for jobs outside the country.

With no reforms in sight, there can be no sustainable recovery plan for the crisis-hit nation and there will be no future for anyone that stays. The situation is becoming more and more unbearable as we are not only losing our loved ones to the crisis, but also our hope for any future in this country.
