Raja Salame Released On 100 Billion Lebanese Lira Bail

Got a 100 billion Lebanese Lira lying around?

According to Reuters, Raja Salame, the brother of Lebanon’s notorious Central Bank governor Riad Salame, was just released on an astronomical bail amounting to 100 billion Lebanese Lira. At the current parallel market rate of 27,000 LL to the dollar, this amounts to over $3.7 million!

Raja was arrested on charges of financial misconduct on March 17th. Investigations were launched after it was revealed that his company allegedly received upwards of $330 million in brokerage fees funneled out of the Central Bank. He is accused of embezzling larger sums as well.

Salame had been interrogated for over three hours by Judge Ghada Aoun. There is also a warrant out for Riad Salameh to appear before Judge Aoun, one that the older Salameh has largely ignored for over a year.
