Beirut Airport Technicians Announce Strike Next Month

According to the National News Agency, technicians at Beirut’s Airport have announced an upcoming strike from 6 PM on June 15 ’til 6 AM on June 16. This strike is in protest of their low wages that are still being doled out at the 1,500 LL exchange rate (while the parallel market rate has bounced between 20,000 and 30,000).

This strike will suspend air traffic for civil aircrafts, and the technicians have hinted at escalating should their demands not be met. In their statement, the technicians also stated that other airport employees receive their wages in fresh USD.

It is estimated that around 90% of inbound flights to Lebanon have been fully booked between June 15 and July 15, setting the country up for a massive influx of tourists and expats as the country attempts to make financial repairs.
