Nagy Souraty

Nagy Souraty was born in Beirut. He obtained his Masters of Arts in “Drama & Theatre Studies” from Royal Holloway-University of London in 1998. He is also a graduate in Communication Arts from the BUC/LAU (1992, major: Radio, TV & Film / minor: Theatre).

Director & actor, he has also been teaching since 1992. Known as the Didaskalos.
He taught at the Lebanese American University between 2001 & 2011, where he directed every year a Major Theatre Production. These productions have been acknowledge by the press & the audiences to have taken theatre at the LAU to the level of the professional scenes! He is coordinator of the artistic education at the Collège Protestant Français where he is responsible for the Theatre & Audiovisual options as part of the French Baccalaureate (emphasis that have been implemented by himself in lebanon & the middle east since 1992). He is also Artistic Consultant & member of the board at the Al Madina Theatre in Beirut.

Organizer of theatre workshops, he participated in many festivals & residences of artists (London, Avignon, Beirut, Tunis, Damascus, Canne, Vienna..).

After having directed on stage texts written by Sartre, Pirandello, Kafka, Shaffer & Camus; he explored since 1998 only with texts written by living authors: Etel Adnan, Philippe Ducros, Richard Millet, David Rudkin, Timberlake Wertenbaker, Michel Azama, Nasri El Sayegh… all in the realm of collective creations.

His experimentation in the theatre is nowadays institutionalized & recognized as THEATRE OF THE EDGE.
