SANAD

SANAD is an independent non-governmental, non-profit organization established in January 2010 in an effort to fill an important gap in the Lebanese healthcare system.

Its focus is on the preservation of dignity and relief of suffering in patients with terminal illness in order to maintain the best possible quality of life. It strives to empower patients and their families to become skilled in their own care and allow them to make informed choices that are in line with their values and beliefs.

It aims to provide holistic care to address the medical, psychological and social needs of patients and their caregivers. This includes management of pain and other symptoms as well as treatment of medical complications. These services are delivered to patients regardless of nationality, religion, political affiliation, gender, diagnosis or ability to pay.

SANAD is committed to researching and addressing policy challenges related to the provision of palliative care. In order to advance its mission, SANAD will also focus on advocating for the removal of existing barriers within the health care system that may affect the ability of individuals to access palliative care.

In parallel, SANAD will also undertake extensive awareness raising activities at the levels of the community and the medical and nursing professions to facilitate a better understanding of the issues and the concepts behind hospice and palliative care in Lebanon. This buy-in is essential for the creation of a supportive environment for advocating for patients’ rights.
