Live Blog: Explosion Rocks Beirut’s Southern Suburb of Dahiyeh

A loud explosion was heard at around 11:00 a.m. in the Beirut southern suburbs of Dahiyeh on Tuesday morning. Manar TV says the explosion went off in the Bir El-Abed neighborhood.

Injuries are being reported by various news agencies. Landlines as well as cell phone lines have reportedly been cut.

MTV news has released video footage from earlier this hour showing Interior Minister Marwan Charbel being chased by an angry mob in the neighborhood of Bir el-Abed in southern Beirut. The army is seen firing shots in the air in an attempt to disperse the crowd.

Al-Jadeed TV reports Interior Minister Marwan Charbel has safely left the Bir el-Abed neighborhood in Beirut’s southern suburbs after he came under attack by an angry mob who forced him to hole up inside a building for around 20 minutes before he could leave the area.

Al-Jadeed news reports Interior Minister Marwan Charbel is holed up inside a building near the Dahiyeh explosion site. An angry mob attacked him when he entered the area to inspect the damage caused by a car bomb that reportedly went off at around 11:00 a.m. this morning.

Al-Joumhouriya newspaper has released a list of people reportedly wounded in this morning’s Dahiyeh blast. They are: Mohammad Chedid, Mohammad Daher, Tala Cheet, Wlid abd el Kader, Nabhan Ghassan, Randa Osseily, Raslan Wassim, Salloum Ahmad Ahmad, Iman el Bacha, Aliyya Fneich and Ahmad Nassar, Nasser Mhammad, Awada Nabeel, Hsein Hsein, Haydar Moubarak, Ahmad Ali Hoteit, Ibtissam Ayyoub, Ahmad Sarhal, Rayan Bazzi and Taha Bazzi.
