Who's Your Daddy?
With four villages forming one town, people from Jounieh are related to other people from Jounieh in so many ways, it’s almost incestuous to marry each other!
The Richas are cousins with the Doumit, who are related to the Boueris, who are friends with the Barakat, who are close to the Rached, who are… well, you get the picture. This helps out when you need a favor from someone, or you get a flat tire and need some help (“Oh, yes, my sister went to school with your great-aunt!”), but it also bolsters family feuds and prevents you from going out with people because they’re probably related to you. But no matter what, Jounieh families have each other’s backs when it really matters.
Don't let these differences keep you away from Jounieh. Whether you’re from Beirut or somewhere a little farther, Jounieh’s still a great place to hang out, especially if you know someone from the Rached family. Or the Barakat. Or –ah, you get the picture.
