Explosion Rips Through Dahiyeh in South Beirut

An explosion ripped through Beirut’s southern suburb of Dahiyeh shortly after 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

Al-Manar TV is reporting the explosion took place on the Martyr Ahmed Qassir road. Huge plumes of smoke were seen rising from the scene. Ambulances were also seen heading in the direction of the blast.

This follows an explosion earlier this month on January 2 in the Bir el-Abed neighborhood of Dahiyeh which killed seven people. This also comes after a particularly violent week in Lebanon. On January 18, eight people were killed, including five children, in a rocket attack on the eastern Bekaa town of Arsal. A day earlier, a car bomb killed four people and injured 42 others in Hermel.
