Reading of Yekermo Sew by Tsegaye Gabre-Medhin

Attend this reading of Yekermo Sew (Tomorrow’s Man) by Tsegaye Gabre-Medhin at the Migrant Community Center with Milia Ayache, Johnny Mhenna, Ali Younes, Hadi Deaibess, and Rahel Zegeye.

Synopsis:
Moges and Tekola are brothers, attempting to negotiate the unstable territory between what they want to do and what family duty dictates they should do: the former is still reeling from being abandoned by his wife and only child, the latter from his own perpetual anger and fear. Their uncle from the country, Zerfu, comes to visit and tries to convince them to leave the half-life of the city in order to return with him and claim their father’s land, extolling the joys and virtues of the earth. Ultimately, it’s only after an unexpected calamity that Moges and Tekola are able to renegotiate what they need from each other in order to survive, to be people of wisdom, and finally, to become family to each other.
