Since the release of his debut album, “Ashur” in 2012, Tarek Yamani has been dedicated to exploring relationships between African-American Jazz and Arabic rhythms/maqams. This new direction in interpreting Arabic classical music is the main story behind his new album, “Lisan Al Tarab: Jazz Conceptions in Classical Arabic”.
“Lisan Al Tarab” is a new proposition in applying jazz conceptions to Arabic music by enriching Arabic melodies with Jazz vocabulary, phrasing and harmony all melted into one entity that Tarek calls Afro Tarab.
Among the reworked Muwashahat are: Hibbi Zurni (Darwich Al Hariri), Zarani Al Mahboub, Fi Hulal Al Afrah (Kamel Al Khula’i) and Lamma Bada Yatathanna (Mohammad Abdel Rahim Al Masloob). Among the early songs are: Lahn Al Shayalin (Sayed Darwich), Beirut Zahra Fi Gheir Awanha (Omar Ze’eni), Che Mali Wali (Iraqi Traditional) and Ah Ya Zein (Folk).
“Lisan Al Tarab” will be released featuring:
