Infusions Dance Workshop

Saturday, Jul 18, 2015
11:00am -> 2:00pm
Art and Movement Dance School

Rania el Khoury (Lebanon/ Sweden) and Caroline Hatem (Lebanon) have their love of fresh herbs, Lebanese mountains and James Brown in common – there’s a lot they share, and a lot they don’t. Rania has lived and learnt through the Hip Hop and Street Dance Underground of Sweden and the US, while Caroline has practiced contemporary and classical ballet dance techniques in Beirut, Paris and the USA. But when they meet to teach and dance together, they understand they go beyond (or below) specific styles and techniques. With a good core, a good ear, deeps roots and wings, dance is one.

This workshop is combining elements of different styles: Jazz, Hip Hop / Street Dance, contemporary, various Tribal Stump Dances, even some Oriental moves.

From warm up to a final choreography, we shall travel seamlessly from a technique to another, with special attention given to spine and weight, rhythmicity and then, obviously to the flow.

“Rania is so grounded, solid, with a deep feeling of black music and culture. Her approach of Street dance differs drastically from the MTV and commercial aesthetics. She’s a solid dancer, inspired, she’s a whole world on her own”.

Caroline Hatem is a Lebanese actor, dancer and writer. She’s studied philosophy, dance and theatre in France, Lebanon and the USA. She’s worked in Beirut with Alice Massabki, in New York at the Ballet Arts and at the Trisha Brown Dance school, in Paris at the RIDC, and with Marc Jebejian (classical) and Alice Massabki. She teaches dance at the Art&Movement dance school (Jal el dib) since 2011.
