Facebook Launches New Emoji Reactions

As of Wednesday February 24, Facebook users now have the option of selecting from six different emoji reactions instead of the single ‘like’ button.

The reactions can be accessed by holding down the ‘like’ button on mobile, or hovering over its icon on desktop. The reactions featured are: Like, Love, Haha, Wow, Sad, and Angry.

Facebook said it wanted to allow users to react to content in an authentic way instead of just “liking” something – a feature that is particularly useful for when people are put in the awkward position of liking a post about a tragedy (like a post about somebody dying).

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg discussed this by saying, “Not every moment is a good moment, right? And if you are sharing something that’s sad, like whether it’s something in current events like the refugee crisis that touches you, or a family member passed away, then it may not be comfortable to ‘like’ that post[.]”

So there you have it, now your weird aunts can express an even wider range of emotions than a “to2borni” comment under every single one of your photos!
