The Rave


These are the nightlife’s special events this weekend, but they’re not all Beirut has to offer. Electric Sundown, Decks on the Beach, and The Gärten are all hosting their weekly parties too.

Beirut Night Rides – Thursday 19 and Friday 20, 7:45 PM



A Massive Night Ride and a spin around Beirut’s Suburbs await you (and your bike) on Thursday and Friday at CycloSport Gemmayze. All levels are welcome.


Rafting Day in the Assi River – Sunday 22, 8 AM


Release your inner adrenaline junkie this Sunday at the Assi River in Hermel. Make sure you get an extra set of dry clothes.


Horsh Beirut open this Sunday only!



Beirut’s biggest public garden normally opens on Saturdays only (for Lebanese people at least); but three students from USJ – in collaboration with Nahnoo, the NGO that helped the fight for its recent re-opening – are set to change that.

Healthy Dessert Workshop – Thursday 19, 5 PM



For those who want to enjoy sweets without the side of guilt, a workshop that guides you through sugar-free desserts, including egg-free and flour-free alternatives. Details here.


Souk el Akel Beirut Waterfront – starting Tuesday 17 till Sunday 22



Souk el Akel is spending the week at the Beirut Waterfront, but the real fun starts during the weekend: a Brunch Edition with and all sorts of foods to satisfy your cravings!




The Art Scene


But I Love You, Directed by Lina Abyad – starting Thursday 19, 7 PM



Victims of domestic violence tell the stories of their abuse. Four women onstage with nothing but their memories. The play debuts this Thursday at Theatre Monnot.


The Pond House by Taher Asad-Bakhtiari – Friday 20, 6 PM

The artist examines a staple of Iranian architecture – a cooling chamber with a central fountain to use during hot summers – through a series of tribal tapestries. The exhibition opens at Carwan Gallery and runs until July 10.


The Cultural Front


Basel Rajoub & Soriana Project at the Beirut Spring Festival – Thursday 19, 8:30 PM



Saxophone, Qanun, Percussion, and Vocals come together in this semi-improvised performance at the Sunflower Theatre as part of the Beirut Spring Festival.


FEMENA – Saturday 21, 8 PM



Onomatopoeia showcases the FEMENA project, which grouped nine women musicians over a period of five days to create music and open the discussion on women’s presence in the music scene. The project culminates in Saturday’s performance.



The Intellectual Agenda


Poetry for Everybody: May Edition – Thursday 19, 8 PM



FADE IN: and Mansion team up for this month’s poetry night. Featured artists will recite poems in English and Arabic, then they’ll leave the stage to the audience. Feel free to step up and read your own.


Beirut Design Week – Friday 20, 6 PM



The annual design fest is back with an even bigger line up. Although the opening ceremony is this Friday, plenty of other BDW-sponsored exhibitions and installations are happening simultaneously.



The Seventh Art


In Video: Palestine, Syria, Beirut – Thursday 19, 6 PM



Masrah al Madina hosts a screening of short films shot by Palestinian, Syrian, and Lebanese youth. A short discussion with the videographers will follow.


The Disquiet and The Digger Screening – Thursday 19, 7 PM

As part of his exhibition at Sursock Museum, A Taxonomy of Fallacies: The Life of Dead Objects, Ali Cherri’s films, The Disquiet (2013) and The Digger (2015) will be screened followed by a Q&A with the artist.
