12 Funny Things All Unfit People Trying To Get Fit Will Understand
If, like me, your New Year’s resolution was to get fit, you might be familiar with some of the struggles you experience when hitting the gym. Here are only some of the struggles that we know all too well.
1. The motivation seeking
Yes, that! Where do people find the motivation to work out after a horrible day at the office or in the wee hours of the morning? I just want to crawl back into bed. Or eat cheese nachos. Or both.
2. The Instagram fitness gurus
So to get in the mood, you start following a bunch of accounts on Instagram and get mixed emotions leaning towards admiration and hate. Should I be loving my body or force-feeding it kale?!
3. The new vocabulary
TRX? Body pump? PT? Didn’t know you signed up for the chamber of torture.
4. The budget planning
No one told you it would be so expensive! Between the gym membership, the personal trainer, and the workout outfits – where can you sell a kidney?
5. The near-death experience
Okay, so it’s your first day hitting the gym. You’re confident, take a look around you, and see other people exercising so effortlessly and gracefully. Wait until you do it. No pain no gain they say. Ha.
6. The ugly marshmallow look
Suddenly, amidst an atrocious workout, you spot yourself in the mirror and see what might look like a frazzled melting marshmallow. How in the world do the other girls still look sexy?
7. The lost counts
And you’re so focused on others that you unintentionally lose count of how many squats you’ve done so far. That’s when you decide you’ve done enough.
8. The painful post-workout
Ah yes, forget about coughing, sneezing, or laughing for the next week if you chose to put yourself through the hell of an abs/bum workout.
9. The constant hunger
And I do mean constant. You come back home and this whole fitness routine has obviously made you hungry, but you have a strict diet to follow. So you end up standing in front of the fridge all night thinking about your cravings.
10. The never-ending dilemma
After your first session, you’re genuinely conflicted when it comes to hitting the gym again or casually ignoring it and heading to happy hour instead. Yes, you deserve it – you did all those squats!
11. The relationship test
Trying to get fit also means testing your relationships. You expect compliments from your partner, encouragement from your friends who will join you on a few classes to prove their support, and empathy from your co-workers who wouldn’t dare order lunch from that greasy shawarma place.
12. Screw this shit!
You’re close to seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, you’re running your heart out and finally you reach the closing line… congrats! You’ve just arrived to your nearest McDonald’s. How can we serve today?
