Very saddening news this morning as the
National News Agency reports that Lebanon just lost a newborn with cardiac anomaly who had also tested positive for the coronavirus.
Editorial Purpose: We are sharing this piece of content to keep you in the loop on the latest happenings in the country.
This is the first infant death recorded since the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak, despite maximal medical efforts made to save her life.
The newborn was identified as Maya, a baby born with a congenital heart defect who was in desperate need for an urgent operation.
Due to the absence of a pediatric cardiac surgeon at Rafic Hariri University Hospital, a surgical team from Rasoul Azam Hospital volunteered to operate on the child at RHUH’s COVID-19 ready operating room.
Both institutions did their absolute best to help Maya, but she unfortunately passed away.
Our sincerest thoughts and prayers go out to her family. May her soul rest in peace.
