A viral video has been circulating on social media showing a group of enraged citizens attempting to break into the parliament. They were initially there handing out aid and food to those in need, according to local media.
In an attempt to keep them out and disperse the crowds, security forces are firing tear gas towards Martyrs’ Square in Downtown, Beirut.
This comes after the devastating blast that rocked Lebanon’s capital on Tuesday, August 4, which claimed 137 victims, injured 5000 people, and left hundreds missing and 300,000 families homeless. The catastrophic explosion was attributed to the negligence of the ruling class, who had left 2700 tons of ammonium nitrate stored at the Beirut Port despite the risk.
Meanwhile, all we’ve yet to receive from the ruling class are blank statements and band-aid responses, which has angered citizens. But apparently we’re always meant to hurt in silence in this country.
