Lebanon To Receive 33K Doses Of AstraZeneca Vaccine Today
After slight delays in delivery, the 33,600 doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine are set to arrive in Lebanon later today.
The Minister of Health in Lebanon’s caretaker government Hamad Hassan announced that high school teachers, official exam staffers, and 55–65-year-olds working in productive sectors would be considered priority groups as of April.
This comes after a rather slow vaccine rollout in Lebanon, with the national vaccination plan only having managed to inoculate 1.1% of the population nearly 6-weeks after the plan started.
This arrival also coincides with the private sector managing to secure 1 million doses of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine, something many are hoping will speed up the process of achieving immunity.
After much speculation about whether or not the AstraZeneca vaccine contributes to a higher risk of blood clots, the European Medical Association (EMA) found the vaccine to be safe for use.
