Conjoined twin girls were separated successfully last night at the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC),
NNA reports.
As the first operation of its kind in Lebanon, Caretaker Health Minister Firass Abiad declared that its success is “a beacon of hope” despite such dark times.
In a press conference held at the medical center following the successful surgery, Abiad revealed that the parents of the twins had contacted him six months ago after they discovered that their twins were conjoined in the womb.
After 10 hours of diligence and dedication, the surgeons successfully separated the twins following months of preparation for the big surgery.
Hospitals and medical centers have suffered the brunt of the economic crisis, as their most basic operations have become difficult to conduct. Battling a shortage of supplies, medications, and even medical and nursing staff, AUBMC proceeds to mark a historical moment in Lebanon’s medical sector.
