“Scream 6” Reportedly Banned In Lebanon Over LGBT+ Characters

It looks like fans of the American slasher “Scream” won’t be able to watch the sixth installment of the iconic horror movie franchise in movie theaters, as it has been reportedly banned from screening in Lebanon.

According to film critic Anis Tabet, the movie was reportedly banned because it featured LGBTQ+ characters. The movie is being applauded globally for “breaking queer film character tropes”, setting a franchise global box office record with a $67 million debut.

“Scream 6” will be joining the likes of “Minions: The Rise of Gru” and “Lightyear”, which were reportedly banned last year due to the depiction of an evil nun and a same-sex kiss respectively. Guess we’ll have to stream it LIKE WE CAN DO WITH ANYTHING ELSE. Haven’t we outgrown bans yet?

It seems that although the country suffers from an economic collapse, major shortages in chronic medications, a halted port blast investigation, increasing domestic violence and femicide rates, and poverty, LGBTQ+ characters pose a great danger to Lebanese society.
