The 4th annual event hosted 11 migrant domestic workers from the Philippines who competed for the crown, and it is being marketed as a “humanitarian competition” that is attempting to “challenge the stereotypes” surrounding migrant domestic workers in Lebanon. The winner was granted $1,000 in prize money and received in-kind gifts.

This attempt to challenge existing stereotypes surrounding migrant domestic workers is overshadowed by the grim reality that many of them face in Lebanon. These workers are governed under the exploitive Kafala system and are excluded from the Lebanese Labor Law, leaving them vulnerable to abusive work environments, forced labor, and trafficking.

This Is Lebanon is one of the few organizations reporting the heinous crimes against migrant domestic workers in Lebanon. if you would like to learn more about this organization, click here.
