Following Israel’s horrific attacks against Palestinians in Gaza, people have been rallying and expressing their support for Palestine all over the world, including Lebanon. If you’re wondering about the different ways you can show support to Palestine, here are 3 things you can do.
Familiarizing yourself with Palestine’s history of resistance is a great way to show your support, whether you’re trying to educate yourself or you’re planning to use that information to educate others. Many bookshops across Lebanon have sections dedicated to Palestinian resistance literature.
Halabi Bookshop in Kaskas is one of the many bookshops that has a series of works about Palestine, which you can check out here.
You can also read more about the history of Lebanon’s publishing industry and how it published the works of exiled Palestinian writers after the Nakba, including Ghassan Kanafani and Jabra Ibrahim Jabra who frequented Beirut cafes to write and partake discussions.
The Beirut Art Center set up a fundraiser to collect donations which will be sent to trusted individuals on the ground in Gaza. Both in-person and online donation options are available.
For in-person donations, head to Beirut Art Center from Monday to Saturday any time between 12pm and 7pm. Click here for the exact location. You can also make online donations through their website by clicking here. Official receipts in the name of the association are provided upon donation.
You can also make donations via Medical Aid for Palestinians. MAP is an organization that has been on the ground providing medical care to those affected by the bombardment.
To counter the excessive journalistic malpractice and mass censorship on social media, you can follow a list of accounts on Instagram and Twitter, run by people reporting from Gaza.
Make sure to follow them and share their posts to 1) avoid misinformation and 2) share live coverage. You can also follow this List on Twitter, which reposts news reports from different sources.
