One of Lebanon’s Most Unique Museums Is Tucked Away in Remhala
The village of Remhala is home to one of Lebanon’s most unique museums, where metal is transformed into remarkable works of art.
Founded by Lebanese artist Charles Nassar, Shazaya Museum is built around a powerful idea. Many of its artworks are created from war remnants, including shrapnel, bullet casings, and salvaged metal.
Instead of letting these pieces remain symbols of destruction, they have been transformed into striking sculptures that tell stories of resilience, hope, and renewal.
The museum also features works made from traditional metal, showcasing intricate craftsmanship and imaginative designs. Together, the collection creates a fascinating contrast between Lebanon’s past and the creativity that continues to shape its future.
One of the highlights is the museum’s cave gallery, where artworks are displayed inside a naturally immersive space.
Outside, visitors can explore a distinctive metal treehouse, originally designed for harvesting dates before being transformed into one of the museum’s most recognizable attractions.
Shazaya Museum received official recognition from Lebanon’s Ministry of Culture in 2024, earning a place on the country’s national museums list following its inauguration ceremony in September 2023.
