Discover Beirut Through a Free Walking Tour in Sign Language!

Sign language follows its own system, with different sentence processes, structures, and grammar. It’s more than a way for deaf people to communicate. It offers a distinct way of experiencing and understanding the world.

On Wednesday, September 23, experience the richness of Beirut’s heritage and culture through a free walking tour conducted entirely in sign language.

In honor of International Sign Language Day, Aman Social Enterprise is hosting a free walking tour through Beirut. The tour is designed for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. Taking place from 3 PM to 7 PM, it will explore Beirut’s streets, landmarks, and thousands of years of history. The tour will bring the city’s history to life through sign.

It’s organized in collaboration with tour guide Samira Ezzo and sign language interpreter Celine Mouzannar.

Over four hours, participants will explore the layers of history hidden around downtown Beirut. The tour will uncover Roman and Phoenician remains tucked between the city’s modern streets. Participants will also pass historic churches and mosques that reflect Beirut’s many civilizations and historical periods.

What makes the experience particularly meaningful is its focus on accessibility, giving deaf and hard-of-hearing participants the opportunity to engage with Beirut’s history through sign language. Everyone is welcome to join, and participation is completely free.
