As winter approaches, Lebanon’s deteriorating infrastructure always makes this season HELL. Here are a few photos from last winter that you may not want to see:
1. When Jounieh road flooded after a night of heavy rain
Nafs el shi metel Venice bas ento bethebbo l ajeneb.
A video of a car driving through the flooded road went viral on social media, sparking comparisons between our coastal city and Italy’s charming northern capital.
2. When a building collapsed in Achrafieh due to heavy rains
A building in the Medawar neighborhood of Achrafieh collapsed after continuous heavy rains last November. It had sustained damage during the horrific explosion of August 4.
3. When a “waterfall” formed on the Batroun-Tripoli road
The roadside partially collapsed, and water began hurling down the side of the road.
We hope this winter will go easy on us, but knowing our luck, we’re likely in for a surprise.
