A year after announcing the reopening of Jesuit Garden, also known as the Geitaoi Garden, the public space is now buzzing with activity and community life. Want to join in on the fun? Here’s what to expect.
This initiative was spearheaded by Liqaa, a project started by neighborhood residents. They wanted to breathe new life into the green space and transform it into a welcoming hub for everyone.
The restoration was a joint effort by Al Sabil Library, Beit Al Baraka Association, and local residents. They gave the garden a full makeover by renewing pathways and flooring, restoring fountains, and planting new trees.
The historic surroundings of the old church were preserved, and the playground was renovated for children’s safety. The project aimed to create a clean, safe, and inclusive space for everyone, including people with disabilities.
Most activities in the garden are free and open to the public, though some events charge a small fee to support the initiative.
The garden hosts a wide range of activities. Visitors can enjoy markets for local producers, book fairs, library pop-ups, and environmental or agricultural workshops. There are also children’s art classes, adult handicrafts, music and film screenings, morning meet-ups, board games, and even a walking club.
Jesuit Garden has become a true cultural and social hub, not just a green space.
The initiative continues to grow with new projects and events. Coming up is the Vintage Garden Market, a curated open-air market set among the garden’s lush greenery. Visitors can browse antiques, stylish clothing, and carefully selected collectibles in a relaxed, natural setting.
A perfect outing for families with young kids, who can enjoy the green space and play in the renovated playground while parents browse through the market.
Mark your calendars! The market will be a fun three-day event this October:
Friday, October 10: 4 PM – 10 PM
Saturday, October 11: 4 PM – 10 PM
Sunday, October 12: 4 PM – 8 PM
